help
« on: March 12, 2010, 22:43:12 »
I have a sour apple birdnest that has been doing great for several months!
yesterday I noticed some of the polyps were gone.
today they are even more gone.

Any suggestions?
Thanks and God Bless,
John

What else do you have in the tank fish/invert wise? Is it just the polyps or is it the 'skin' also? What are your water parameters?

I don't know the paramaters right now.
it is the skin come to think of it
IT's in my 220g
and all the other fish, inverts, and corals seem to be ok
Thanks and God Bless,
John

Do you have anything that may have nipped it? Any other corals that might have stung it at night? How large is the coral, and how large is the damage?

Is it at the base of the coral or tips?

were the damage is pretty well protected by the branches.
the coral is probably about the size of two mans fists.
there is nothing around that would have stung it either.
I'll check my paramaters this morning and see what they look like.

could it be a parasite?
Thanks and God Bless,
John

it was the base and working it's way up the 'trunk'.
It looks like the affected area was stripped clean and bleached

Is the tissue gone too?   Is the decay still moving?

It's really hard to tell from the short description and not knowing more about the tank (a picture would help a ton) but it sounds like it could be Rapid Tissue Necrosis (not good), go and read some descriptions of RTN and look at some pics on line to see if it matches that. If it is RTN your best bet is clip off good tissue as a new frag. If you have to do this use clippers, don't snap birdsnet with your hands because the pressure from you fingers will damage the tissue.
