Key West early August good or bad idea?
« on: June 10, 2010, 11:33:38 »
I am getting married the end of July & we are trying to figure out where to take the RV.  Always wanted to head to the Key's in the summer for some snorkeling/diving but I didn't know if that is a good tiime to go or not??

I figure the oil from the gulf might hit some of the area's down there so it would be nice to see it again..... before some of it's ruined.  I do understand it's hurricane season but since we will be in a RV, we can easily change plans if needed

Anyone been down there in August?  Are Mosquito's & no-seeum's an issue?

I'd be concerned that the oil will have gotten into the Loop Current and significantly affected the shores down there by then...  I think hamiltro has tent-camped on Key West before...  but I could be waaaaaaaayyyyyyy off

I think no matter what you'll have a good time. I suspect the oil will have got there from the loop current, but there is always just a short drive to the beaches on the east coast of Fl or other protected beaches in the bays

I on the other hand, paid for a condo rental in gulfshores 6 months ago. So I'll be swimming in the oil for a 4th of July vacation :(

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

Don't feel bad Wes, I'm flying into Destin on August 4th.  I too will be swimming in oil.  I guess if nothing else I can volunteer to wash pelicans!   :'(

Somehow, I think it's not the right kind of oil.  ;)

Mosquitos and No-see-ums are always an issue in Fla.  Just take plenty of Off! and you'll be fine.  Near mangroves and marshes they are exceptionally bad.

I would think regardless of the oil issue, Key West will keep you plenty busy.  The Keys are just awesome!  Hope you have a great time on your honeymoon.

well, we are going to the Keys.  Usually I stay ay Boyd's campground but we wanted to do something different.  I found a different camping area just a few miles from Key west that we are going to try.
