You would be surprised. Your average hand gun @ a decent range (stray fire) will be stopped by .5" acrylic. At the very least slowed/fragmented enough to minimize damage.

Now a 5.56 or similar high energy round is a bit different. But I don't see many gangbangers packing AR-15's lol.

No, they prefer .50 AE :)

Can you see the difference between lexan and acrylic?  I am not sure which it might be.
