this looked good yesterday, it has been growing like a weed over the past year and a half, well today i see this, my alk was very low, i use the color chart, it is usually high in the blue range well today i checked it and it was low in the light green to yellow range which is way low.i have been trying to work out the ro problem i had and i guess it got low on me. should i leave it or cut the dead part off. i'll attach 2 pics what it looked like a few days ago and now.sucks one of my favorite.

I think it might be possible. In my mind, 4 things; disease, attacks from another coral, a powerhead/wavemaker out of comission, a light bulb has lost power, or your tank temp got too high. I'm no expert. Could be alk issue, but in my non-expert opinion that seems very sudden for an alk issue to cause that, unless your pH went really south too.

You can choose to watch it, If you slowly adjusted your ALK backup, it might respond with no more necrosis. But if that happened overnight, I would frag off the good part. Otherwise you could wake up to wall white in the morning.

Eek. I have seen acros do that with low alk before. If anything happens, I have a piece for you Larry.

I have noticed that I can usually judge that something is wrong with my alk by how my monti caps look. I would raise the alk, ck your mag and the coral will probably grow back over the dead area.

ok glad i fragged it, the main colony was all white this morning, but the 3 frags were ok so if just one makes i'll be happy.

that is why i wont spend a lot on corals, i thinki know why this happend but sometimes they just die

They don't just die. They die for a reason and figuring out that reason is the key to making sure it doesn't happen again. I still haven't figured out why my Acans will randomly die and come back.

I would add some carbon to the tank, that can happen from chemical warfare also. Plus carbon can help take out other chemical unknowns.

i will, i have always run carbon and stopped when i changed my sump over to a different one...thanks
