Marineland heaters just boiled my tank came home to see my fish dead and dying and my corals melting and bone white an my skimmer going nuts and digi thermometers all reading in the high 90's

Sorry about your loss.

Heater failures are fairly common.....never trust them.

Two common options
1) Use 3 or 4 small heaters that alone are not enough to overheat the tank.  Odds of a failure are high, but odds that more than one will fail are fairly low.
2) Run a heater on a controller.   Let the controller do the work, but set the thermostat on the heater just slightly higher. 

Using a combination of #1 and #2 would be the best redundancy and protection against failure.

bummer..... that happend to me years ago except with visitherm heaters.  I was told to get a 300w heater for my 75g which stuck on & killed all my fish excelt a lion fish.  I do smaller heaters & like mentioned on a controller is preferred.  That way two thermostats would have to fail.

If it was a Marineland stealth heater I think there is a voluntary recall.

All are being recalled I lost almost the entire tank coral fish everything
All stealths and pro stealth all wattage all are being recalled.
U was told to file a claim which will be in very soon

Iwas looking at  a true temp heater with controller 500watt toreplace my two marineland 250 watt heaters its a little priceybut if its gonna be high quality its worth it to me
