Biocube filtration?

What does everyone use for filtration in their biocube? I have decided to upgrade my filtration system, but to buy a media basket it’s over $60 plus the cost of a chaeto basket if you choose one. I have found where people have made a DIY one and was curious if anyone has had any luck.

Also, what does everyone prefer to use in the various chambers?
