Protein skimmer
« on: April 10, 2014, 11:26:00 »
can anyone explain this slllowwwwlly I understand it's not getting rid of "protein" and the only answer I can find is "dissolved organic compounds" so fish poop, right? Well I just added 4 small fish 3 days ago so they can't be accountable for the amount of nastiness in my collection cup. Oh and plankton, I read that too so I left all my pumps and skimmers on and spot Fed my corals and the skimmer went nuts. So I get plankton and fish poo but that still doesn't seem like enough. The only other creatures I have are some hermits, slug, cucumber, snails, anemone, and around 15 small corals (lps, sps, and one leather) thanks guys!

Dissolved organic compounds is essentially any number of bioorganic materials that are exuded by all of your live creatures (including coral) as well as any other organic materials you may add to your tank (i.e., food, organic supplements, etc).

Also, most of the DOCs are proteins or composed of protein, which is where you get the name.
