Acan death
« on: December 01, 2011, 18:25:40 »
OK.  So last week my 2 year old colt started to look bad, figured it was just a cycle that it has gone through in the past.  Then my 2 year old acan colony basically vanished over night and the colt melted away also.  I ran a test on the water and everything came back just fine if not perfect except for my nitrates are at about 20 ppm.  I have never had a nitrate problem.  Ideas?

Nitrates are fine at 20ppm. Did it have brown jelly like substance on it. If yes google brown jelly disease.

Do you have any other LPS that might be putting out sweeper tentacles at night? Brains, galaxea, etc?

Nothing that would be close enough to cause a problem, as for the jelly, I did not see anything like that, just a very rapid loss of tissue.

Brains and galaxea can put out 4-6" sweeper tentacles. Normally they just look a bit fuzzy at night, but sometimes they'll 'reach out and touch someone' from quite a distance away.
