Overflow designs?

I am looking into drilling my aquarium for a 1.5" bulkhead. Thats about all I know atm. I hear people talking about closed loop, I have an idea what it is just not positive. I am thinking of using a few pieces of black acrylic to manufacture a overflow "tower" for the rear (or close to) center so to speak.
So any tips, tricks, suggestions, ideas, and links would be very helpful. Thanks

All I can say is ...I'm going to attempt it! Hopefully someone can help me figure out the correct bulkhead size per flow rate.

Yeah Man! Thanks! Cyberwollf sent me the link to bean animals' calfo overflow. I ordered three 1" bulkheads, the mur-loc elbow & 1/4" tubing, and the 42mm diamond bit from BRS today. Calling for smoked glass prices tomorrow.
