Sea hare
« on: March 22, 2013, 00:09:27 »
So being a newbie I bought a sea hare with out reading up on it first.  Did not relize they can release a toxin. I do have to say I bought him to eat my algae and he is doing a amazing job at it.
I did read that a lot of clubs share these guys because once there is no algae they will starve. So I'm offering this guy up for borrow for who ever would like. He is pretty big and very fast some times he like jets across the tank its very cool.    So just let me know if anyone has a algae problem.  You can deffently borrow him for a few weeks to clean ur tank. In a week he has cleaned my 75 like no other.

Lol alright well I wanna keep him in for at least a few more days maybe 3 or 4.  I had some hair algae on sand he is destroying right now lol. But after that he's would love to eat your algae!

I did read that he can spray a purple toxin out if threatened. He has not done this in my tank yet. But it is suggest that you run carbon or at least have it on standby by just incase.

I used a sea hare when I first started my tank to clear up HA and he did awesome. Never had any problems with inking.

Where were you last week? LOL I bought another one to take care of my current algae problem. I have a smaller one so he's a little slower going but he's getting there.

Once mine gets my tank cleaned up he'll be available. Probably won't be for a while, though.

I've had those in the past and maybe I'm the only one with this experience but they poop so dang much that it made the tank look awful. Last one I had wouldn't touch HA so I unloaded him for some emerald crabs. But now they seem to eat my mushrooms, so....

seahare can eat nori too so if you can't find a suitor, feed seaweed in the meantime

He did not move all evening. I thought it was dead. But since the house went dark he is starting to move around slowly. Has not eaten anything yet. Thanks for loaning it to me. Also you have a nice tank.

I do not see mine during the day at all. He comes out at night and is usually hiding by the time I get up in the morning.

Can I ask where is the sea hare now? I would hate to go out to buy one if our club is passing one around. If the seahare is available please get in contact with me. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the hare is no more. Went to long without a meal before I got it. You can check with ohioreef to see if he will loan you his. Mine will be up for loaning when I get my tank straightened around.
