Name This Lifeform
« on: August 14, 2009, 23:04:22 »
OK...new game  ;D

I have yet another hitchiker with my rubble for my refugium.

Its the little Zoa / anemone looking thing on the right of the rock.

Anyone care to have a try at this one?

Its kinda cool looking. I'm sure it will end up growing to 12in in diameter, crawl out of your tank and smoother you in your sleep... Thats the way hitchhikers work...

I have had a couple of those in the past.  Google jewel anemone.  Click on Images.  I think that's what you have.  They are pretty.

It's probably a Pseudocorynactis or a Corynactis.  Hard to tell.

What's the prize for this game?

I'm leaning toward a corynactis rather than the psuedocorynactis due to the size.  The psuedos can get rather large (and are not reef safe as they will eat fish.)  They're also fairly common hitchhikers, depending on the collection site.  But, they tend to be colonial.

Hm, I might rethink it's an anemone...see if it moves or reproduces elsewhere in the tank.

Will do.

I went through the rest of the rubble I had picked up and have discovered 3 more, much smaller in size.

The one in the pictures above could fit on a big pencil eraser.

I am going to try to get better pics

It has the bulbous tips so I say club tipped anemone or strawberry anemone. It's the same color as mine. I feed mine a tiny piece of zoe soaked scallop and it goes nuts on that. It doubled in size from what it was when I first found it. so feed it a little extra if you want it to get nice and big (The size of a nickel)! lol  ;)

Looks like manjano
75G Mixed Reef w/ 30G sump/refuge

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

Its definitely majano. Boiling water via syringe, citrus juice, stop aiptasia--all of the above will work. Multiple treatments may be necessary.

Rich has a plague of them at Coral Ranch, but mostly on the sidewalls of his tanks.

You just bought those rocks Saturday....right.  It probably is limited to that rock right now.    I would cut that whole section of rock off, then Quarantine the rest of the rock.
