critters for sump
« on: September 27, 2010, 13:48:47 »
i am running my new sump w/o a foam filter so i am feeding much less, wondering what can i put in the sand part to catch what does go through, hermit crabs etc.  it's about a 50 gallon tank filled to the top almost, running on my 125 reef. on a separate note i drilled the hole in the return line for the back flow and it worked great so i will just need to keep them clean.

You could put nassarius snails a strombus conch but I wouldn't put anything that would prey on pods or strip the sand to much.We like to keep as little in our sumps as possible that would add to the bioload. The sump is were you want to take organics out of your system so adding to many critters could be counter productive.

You could put nassarius snails ...

That what we have done to my sons 37g. They dont go very deep into the sand bed and eat any large pices of food that may find their way into the sump
