Bristle worm question
« on: May 02, 2011, 21:34:12 »
I have a bunch of bristle worms in my little ten gallon. If I put them in my sump for my 110 gallon would they keep the sump gump cleaned up?

They should be harmless in your sump.   Most bristle worms are harmless to your tank, they are eating.   As long as there is food to eat, they will just replenish their numbers.

Does it matter if there is no light?

That's a cool worm......no, they don't need light.

And I would be very careful picking them up, or you'll understand why they call them "bristle" worms,

I'm sure they would eat anything they can catch.   But still the best control of bristle worms is to keep a clean tank.  No food, no worms.

oh believe me, I am careful getting them. I have a claw type tool that I use. I mainly wondering if they would clean up all the gunk in the sump. I do t have anything in there other than my return pump and my skimmer.

You can put them in there, I doubt they would eat that much.  I would recommend cleaning your sump manually....   The "gunk" in there is not helping your nitrates.

I had 2 living in my sump for a few months, not sure they did anything. One made his way on his own the other i threw in there after a water change to keep each company, the next water change I threw them out on the iced over sidewalk, they weren't fans. >:D
