Mixed saltwater
« on: June 13, 2013, 17:06:10 »
I have been reading a lot about mixing & satori g saltwater. But I haven't come up with a solution. My question is, after you have mixed your water, do you have to keep a powerhead in it? I read a couple of people have there mixing pumps on a timer. And the the pumps are only on 10 min of every hour. Would this work?

I would like to know thoughts on this as well. I've always ran the pump until the salt is mixed up in the water, then I just keep a heater in it.

I've never used a mixing pump. I mix mine with my hand. I'm also not using an RO/DI unit. Once I get one I'm sure I'll have to use a pump. Just not enough water pressure to start mixing it good.

I use a MJ-1200 to mix saltwater in a 40 gallon trashcan, then hook a tube up to it and pump it into the aquarium.

I use a powerhead. I always mix for at least 24 hours. But with this new set up I will b able to have 50 gallons or so on hand.

I have a 55gal barrel of water that I mix and I run a power head all the time in there, I also have an ehiem return pump in there that I turn on when I first mix my salt and I have a hose on it to pump the water out, IMO I wouldn't leave it stag net too long

I store my RO/DI in my 60gal barrel, but I make my salt water as needed only.

I use a 30 gal trash can and have a pump in the bottom to mix the water. The pump also has a venturi on it and I run a airline into the pump which pumps fresh air into it continuously. Mine has sat around for a week at a time before and all was good.

I don't think it would go bad. I just wonder if I should have a pump goo g at all time after its mixed, or if 10 min every hour is good. That would just save on electricity.
