Float Valves Are Amazing Tools
« on: July 30, 2007, 22:14:34 »
We have 3 gianomious dogs and they drink like 80 gabillion gallons of water a week.  We used to have one of those 5 gallon auto fill deals. (gravity fed)  Being as lazy as I am that was still to much filling.

So I bought the largest stainless steel bowl TSC had and mounted the float valve in it.  From there placed the bowl in a woodend stand, similar to the bowl elevators for large dogs, and ran the water line to the basement where my old RO/DI saddle valve was still hooked up.  I installed a on/off twist valve  behind the bowl to turn off the water flow so the bowl can be removed to be cleaned.  now just turn on the valve and leave it.  Clean it every couple of weeks and its golden.

have had it running for a few months, no problems.  was a little worries that the dogs might try to eat the float in the bowl but they havent.

What a time saver.

no the white one.  i bought it from airwaterice.com  works BRILLIANT! The black one I do have is for ponds and its to big i think the dogs would eat at it.

the white one is perfect.

float valve

supply valve

all assembled with plastic tubing and push in fittings. so simple.  the bowl i bought I simply drilled in the whole for the float valve and positioned the water level below the hole "just in case" the seals happened to fail i would not get a leak.

i recommend for anyone who has lots of dogs or big dogs who drink a lot.  great fresh water supply and easy DIY project for under $40.  if you already have some components even cheaper.
