The Improved DIY Two Part Supplemt System(Where to Buy)
« on: August 27, 2007, 21:29:59 »
Well I am trying to get these supplemts

DOWFlAKE-Calcium Chloride Dihydrate

MagnesiumChlorideHexahydrate-MagFlakes(Dead Sea Works)

I have already looked at the Lowes In Huber Heights and had no luck. Has anyone found a place where you can buy these materials that is local.

Except you don't want to use Mag flake any more.  Randy Farley-Holmes posted that the manufacturer (Dead Sea Works) no longer recommends its use in aquariums.  They cannot guarantee its purity.  I went to twopartsolutions.com last time because of this.  I have some you can get from me to make a gallon for my cost.  I have a post somewhere on it.

I saw that warning verper, I will probably end up just going with epson salt but I wanted to see if any place carried it anyway

but thanks guys, I was hoping to not have to order it online or travel that far. Does anyone know of any local Home Depots or Hardware stores that carry them

None locally.  Hasn't been in a few years.  Some builders supply in Columbus still carries it.

Well My chances of obtaining these two products around here are pretty slim.

I have decided to not go with mag flakes, and just use Epsom salt only instead.

So Now My search is for DowFlake, Either I can order it from BuckeyeFieldSUpply and pay 20.00 for shipping and 18.00 for the bag or I can come up with some other way of finding it or getting it.

any ideas

If you are ordering online anyway, just get it from twopartsolution.com

I've ordered Salifert test kits from aquatech before.  Someone on RC did a comparison and they are one of the lowest priced.  However, their shipping is higher than I would have expected for the weight.  If you order all of your test kits at once, you might save a few dollars.  Don't forget that sales tax applies.

Or if they don't stock it and it is shipped from the manufacturer you pay two shipping costs (happened to me with Hamilton PC bulbs).  Be sure to call them and make sure they have your order in stock, and part of it is not trans shipped from somewhere else.

As far as the two part method, I've used it for 2 years and it works great.

FYI

The reason Dowflake is NOT recommended by the manufacturer for aquariums is that they are now or soon will be adding Bromide.
