Just wondering what the latest thoughts/opinions are as related to sandbed maintenance. IE, stir/not stir, vacuum, etc.

We have a thin bed. we have a sand sifting star he seems to do a good job

Our sand bed is about 3 inches deep, and I vacuum half of it every other water change. It really pulls alot of nasty stuff out off there, which would probably become a problem later.
