« on: August 01, 2011, 11:13:52 »
Found this site and ordered the following to get rid of what I found out was hair algae.
Very affordable ,
90 Dwarf Cerith  11001 USD0.15 USD13.50
10 Nassarius Vibex  11002 USD0.40 USD4.00
43 Florida Cerith  11003 USD0.40 USD17.20
24 Nerite Snails (Large)  11004 USD0.60 USD14.40
15 Nerite Snails (Small - Medium)  11005 USD0.45 USD6.75

And anything over 50.00 is free shipping.

I am so relieved to have found a solution without boiling all my rocks which was suggested by one of our local sponsors.

You'll more than likely get more than double this when it actually shows up... what are your trates and ph in that tank, the other perimeters? the algae is eating thriving cause something is off balance.. and there may be a chance that whatever it is may end up destroying a good amount of the population you just ordered aswell?

you can use baking soda to raise PH levels, but i do have to say i wouldnt always do this, i'm not sure of any long term effects.

7.8 is low, but not enough to make any drastic changes.

One thing that seems to work well is to run your skimmer air intake to draw in outside air.

Like what a furnace does for combustion?  Outside of the house or outside of the below-the-tank enclosure?

Outside the house.   Low ph is caused by excessive CO2 in the water.  Increasing the O2 will help.

Interesting, first time I have heard that.  Not to difficult to implement.

Right about the phosphates, Checked mine and it was pretty high. I think another issue was when I put all those snails in their and half died and sat their for 3 days it caused some major pollution in my aquarium.

What does anyone else think?

I think you found the source of your phosphate issue or a major contributor.  :-ThumbUpsm
