So after loosing my last male kuda around 5 months ago (All 5 lived to be a little over 5 years old) I decided it was time to get the tank set back up and wanted to start a build thread on it. I removed and redid all the plumbing on the tank and it currently has bleach running through the system to sterilize. The tank is a 75 gallon aquarium, 30 gallon sump, reef dynamics skimmer, GFO reactor and most importantly a chiller. I'm running a bare bottom tank this time around to keep the tank as clean as possible and hopefully not run into a bristle worm problem like I did last time. The rock work will be 30 pounds of BRS branching Tonga rock. I'm using two nice LED fixtures as well and plan to have gorgonians and leathers like I had it the last setup since its a show tank in our living room. Pictures and updates to come soon.

What he said
Looks like a seahorse play house.

Like what you have done with the branch rock, looks great!
-
Any updates on this project? would enjoy learning more about these fascinating creatures.
Jeff
-
The tank is taking its time cycling haha. Was hoping there would be more progression at this point. Had to drain it about 6 weeks ago because I used the wrong ammonia.
-
Little update. The nitrates and nitrites are almost zero so I've added a few gorgs and a leather. We have the species narrowed down to H. barbouri and H. reidi, just going to be a hard choice. Pics coming soon.

Are you keeping live gorgonians in this tank? Is that for appearance and theme of the tank or they are of benefit to the horses?
Jeff
-
Yes they are live. It's just additional hitching places for them plus it's in our living room so I want it to look nice.
-
Have 4 erectus coming Wednesday. The tank has been nicely stocked with many species of gorgonians and leathers. Pictures soon.
-
anxious to learn how and what to feed. I have a 30 gallon just crying for water and some life.
Jeff
-
The great part of getting them from seahorse source is they raise them to eat frozen hikari mysis shrimp. I like to just add the food in the flow.

Those are sweet! Congrats
-
those are pretty cool. are they eating for you already? How often do you have to feed them? do you think they will eat any mysis or pretty much the hikari brand only?
Jeff
-
Ya they was eating within the first hour of being in the tank. We feed them 3 times a day as that's the recommended minimum. They have very short digestive tracks so that's why they have to eat so often. Hikari is a good quality plus it's a salt water mysis which is something important to consider when choosing a mysis.
-
those look incredible
-
Looks to be 1 male and 3 females. They started courting yesterday. Piebald female in the front.

Have you ever been able to raise any of the fry? I went to the site you bought yours and was surprised at the cost of these guys.
Jeff
-
Never tried and really didn't want them to breed haha. Cant beat a quality source.

-
what is flow like in this tank, I have a 29g hex just sitting around that would make a great seahorse tank.

The return pump is 1200 GPH and then two vortech MP 10s running on alternating mode.

Seahorse tank is awesome! Good work
