Stand For Biocube 14
« on: February 05, 2010, 21:47:48 »
I really don't like the flat black Biocube stands (plus they are way over priced). I also want a stand thats taller so that the tank can be seen easier. Anyone have a custom stands they could show me pictures of? Also Im debating on what to build it of also... I was thinking a tile top would be cool!! Have the tank sitting on a TV stand for now so I can take some time building/designing it! OK So give me your input/advise!!! Want to build it right so tell me what you guys wish you would have done!

I think you've seen our custom stand build (copy-cat on the tile!)  If not, go to my 150g thread build.

Ya i was looking at the pics... What did you make the basic frame out of? My problem is I can visulize what It should look like. If I get a picture I can build it (father-in-law has barn full of wood working stuff)

We made the basic frame out of regular 2x4's I think since it's so cheap.  We thought about using a metal frame w/ powder coat...but that was cost-prohibitive.  We just used more wood to make up for softness of the wood.

Ya plus mine is just a biocube 14. So marble worked well? Did u cover the entire top?

Marble was a pain.  It didn't want to adhere well to the wood...and grouting it caused some wood to warp.  You have to use the really thin grout stuff for marble too...so that was annoying.  The entire top is covered...kinda like a shelf going all the way around.  The corners are fancy wood though, instead of marble.

try using/learning google sketchup. It's a somewhat simple program to virtually build something and it gives all the measurements right there on your computer. Sure came in handy on my arcade build so far.
Inspired!!!

I dont know what the footprint is for your cube but they make tile in lots of sizes, 24"x24" is usually the bigest easily found. If you can you fit just 1 tile under your tank as your base, that would save you some work.
