Catching fish
« on: September 17, 2009, 16:13:02 »
I have a coral beauty in my 220g display and I like it BUT it has a tendency to pick at things.  I have lost two clams (over several years).  Having seen Rich's selection of clams at Coral Ranch I would like to try and get rid of the coral beauty with as little hastle to the rest of the fish.

Any suggestions?
Thanks and God Bless,
John

Fish traps using soda bottles with the top 1/4 cut off and flipped over are a popular choice.

This has always worked for me. I put a net into the tank usually resting on a rock with nothing above the net. I directly feed above the net and step up feedings (usually twice-three times a day) so the fish get use to the net quicker. Once their acustom to the net being there I scoop them up when I fed and theyre close to the net. You have to be swift, as a net going through the water doesnt move as fast as you think it would, because of the resistance of the water going through the net.

Can you give me more detail on the bottle?

take 2 litre bottle , cut it off where the taper of the top of the bottle flattens off, cut the lid off making a hole about the size of the fish, take the top piece and turn it around putting the hole where the lid was inside of the rest of the bottle tape together , it works great , if you go to youtube there are some video on making them

Thanks.  We'll see how many other fish I get first!

Do I just lay it in the tank?
Thanks and God Bless,
John

Trial 1 with the 2-liter 4 nassarius and 3 hermits (no fish).  But I did it overnight probably not the best time

larrynews, i have found that you have to be there when the fish go in, it is hard for them to find there way out, but they can excape if your not there when they go in, i have caught every thing in my tank within 20-30 miniutes after i put it in, my biggest tang which is about 6 inch is addicted to it, but i did forget to tell you to bait it, i usually put a piece of frozen brine shrimp in the trap and it will float around inside and the fish see it and go crazy have to have it, and they go in, i have used my bottle trap several time 100% satisfaction,
