Just wanted to add a little info to this tanks profile
After getting completely frustrated with the BH300f Octopus skimmer on this tank I pulled it and placed a spare Sea Clone 100 on it while I had decided to combat a outbreak of byopisis hair algae by doing a blackout of the tank.
The old skimmer went out to the work bench and got broken down. It stayed in this condition for a little over 6 weeks due to weddings and sadly a death in the family.
After 6 months of declining performance the problems were many...
- bad \ if any foam production
- tons of micro-bubbles
- one of the pumps kept shutting down on me
basically I had a dead weight hanging on my tank and not a skimmer. I also (IMO) believe that it helped contribute to the massive explosion of byopisis hair algae.
So late yesterday evening, I had a DUH moment and went to the Reef Central site and found a few threads on this "hard to get info on skimmer". After spending hours reading every post I could find, here are the threads BTW for anyone else who might be in need of info on these skimmers.

Here is a stock pic of this beast:
FYI: it is powered by 2 resun 225 which are known to have heat issues.
I had everything put back together by 1:30am
So today I pulled the trusty little Sea Clone (good little un-moded skimmer BTW) and reinstalled the BH300f and after just 2 hours of operation I must say I am STUNED
!
I am already getting foam production. It has NEVER done this well
Upon reading the post on RC I have learned I have a little treasure of a skimmer.
It's only failing ... A inexperienced operatorI...Being a newbie to skimmers, had decided to purchase a high-end-knowledge-is-a-must skimmer, and just expected it to work. And when it didn't. I of course blamed the POS skimmer. When in fact the problem wasn't the skimmer.
It was me.
Lesson Learned...maybe
