Anybody ever anesthetize a fish?
« on: January 10, 2013, 21:44:27 »
I have a wrasse in quarantine that has developed a bad case of single eye popeye.  Everything I've read suggests this is from injury and should heal on its own but antibiotics are recommended.  However, after two weeks of various antibiotics and epsom salt, the eye looks worse than ever.  I think I need to lance the eye socket to speed healing so need to administer anesthesia.  Has anybody every done such?  What agents do I use and where can I get them?  Thanks in advance.

If you look on RC at Paul's thread he has lanced pop-eye many times.  He personally doesn't think fish feel pain.  He just does it and gets it over with.  Not sure if that helps you or not.

Clove oil is what I remember using on a freshwater fish many many moons ago, but I can't remember the dosage to save my life.
