26 Gallon LED setup
« on: October 08, 2011, 12:33:40 »
I am in the process of building a nano for my daughter and her room, it will start as a fowlr but will move on to maybe have an anemone or perhaps a few lps...? anyways, I wanted the shimmer effect but a halide is impractical for it's placement, so i was wanting to do LED.... and suggestions on the material list?

How far off the water will the LEDs be?  That will determine if need optics.  I had real good experiences at rapidled.com, they have retrofit kits that might make shopping simpler for you.

A nano is pretty shallow, i doubt that you will need uptics if you go with 3w Cree LEDs, esp if you are just wanting to do some sps and anemonies. You just need to put your LEDs about 1.5-2" apart. I dont know if you have been out to my place when i hosted a Ohio Reef meeting, but the LEDs i built have a nice shimmer effect to them with optics.
