If by purified/distilled, you mean free from all chlorine.....you should be ok.    I would however HIGHLY recommend RO/DI water as distilled will only cause you headaches in the future.

Bulk Reef Supply make a good unit, but there are many sources.  I would start with testing the TDS of your tap water, and then a good company can help guide you to the best solution.  3 stage, 5 stage, 7 stage.....it depends on how bad your water really is.  Tap vs Well makes a difference as well.

No that is a myth that is out there. There is a whole lot more copper in our salt mix then what is in the RO/DI or Distilled water

I never add anything to my Rodi water. I went with the best and most stages that Bulk Reef Supply had. Make sure you keep an extra set of filters around and a lot of di/resin if you have crappy water and water pressure.

No you shouldn't

No need to add anything for me... I use a Buckeye Field Supply Unit here,

75gpd Professional unit
235 TDS incoming
0 TDS output @ 70psi

What kinda of water do you have coming in?
How many TDS?
Pressure?

You may not even need a 6 stage, it may be over kill... I use a 4 stage

You checkout BuckeyeFieldSupply?

Just city tap

How many TDS?

I'm not sure on the TDS this is my first saltwater tank im still in the mist of buying one thing at a time each check lol takes alot of start up money

Pressure?

not sure do i just go to the water company or can i buy something to test it.also just to test my sump/fug out i filled it up with tap water and two days later my glass and equipment had a white film all over it and was not easy to wipe away and clue as to what it is or what i should do befor i get my ro/di system

You may not even need a 6 stage, it may be over kill

i was just thinking it wouldnt hurt to have the 2 stages just to be safe sense i dont no whats in the water
also if you or anyone else has a used unit for a good price let me no ...thanks

You can buy a pressure gauge at the local hardware stores for a couple bucks, you can then plumb that into a line/hose/faucet to check your pressure.

Anything less than 60psi and you'll want to look into a booster pump.

6stages = more filters = more $$ to change those filters... Not that your thought process is wrong, but unless your TDS is excessive it won't give you much benfit over a lower stage #, as the end result is still 0tds.

You can buy a handheld TDS Meter for <$20, either online or some LFS carry them. You may want to check your TDS before pulling the trigger on your RO/DI

I agree with Boonjob......You can borrow the clubs TDS meter or call your local water comp. and ask for thier info but yours might be off some from their readings.

I have a 4 stage and live in Huber Hts where the water is not as clean as many other locale places. But if I had more filters I would need to add a booster tank/pump and then the cost goes up.
Just my 2 cents ::)
