That's a neat question. I have done biotope type aquariums with fish before but not with corals.
One problem might be that there could be a lot of overlap. By that I mean, many of the corals we see regularly may occur in numerous places. Of the area specific corals that I am aware of, they are mostly off limits from collecting. For example, there are several corals that exist in the waters of southern Florida & Caribbean that do not exist anywhere else but are illegal to collect.
I agree with Tim that a there are some very good coral books that should be helpful.
