Aiptasia or not aiptasia that is my question
« on: April 07, 2012, 22:08:16 »
I found this in my sump. I did have an aiptasia in there that I took out. But this looks alot differant than that did. The other was alot skinnier @ the base. I also have a bunch of creepy crawlies down there. Hope there just pods.

This has been bothering  my so I have been checking it often tonight. I noticed it was on the move. So I crabed the rock it was on. Then it blows up like a balloon & starts floating away. I grabed the turkey baster & sucked it up. I still have it, but am pretty sure it is aiptatia. Would be sweet if it as something else tho.

Rarely do non-invasive anemones just pop up... The only desired small anenomes that I know of are strawberry anenomes... Pretty neat lil guys.

Might be a majano anemone if it's not aptasia.  Either one is bad.

Ok I'll get rid of it then. I know I won't be able to avoid them forever. But if I have a chance to get one out ima gonna.

Found this on a piece of rock. Is this a drop foot slug? Good? Bad?

Found yet another critter. I have to stop reachingin & just grabbing stuff when I see new things. Found this worm under my sun coral. Noticed when I was feeding mr. sun there was something sneeking out & eating the food that fell off the coral. Picked it up & there is this thing. Is it good or bad? I looked it up & the closest thing I could find that looked like this is a eurythoe complanata (orange bristle worm).

Should I put it back in the tank or flush it? Thanks for putting up with all my questions.

Good bristleworm. You've got tons of them you don't see very often.

Cool thank you. Is it bad to pick stuff like this up? I am used to just grabing stuff when I see it. I'll put it back in the tank right now.

Well, bristleworms will leave little bristles in your fingers. They sting quite a bit if you get them in a sensitive area. If you do get some in your fingers, don't pick at them, soak the area in vinegar for 30-45 seconds.

Any time I'm going to me moving / lifting rock in the tank, I use some black nitrile gloves. I hate getting nailed by these guys, and I have plenty of them to avoid.

Use some good strong tape to pull them out of your fingers

Nah, tape sucks.. 45 seconds of vinegar, and they're completely gone, including the bits just under the skin. No breaks, no leftovers.
