Algae????
« on: November 16, 2011, 15:46:28 »
Can anyone tell me what I might have growing in my tank? The picture is of the small, green plant-like structures, and there are several of them on a few of my rocks.

Hi and Welcome!

After uploading the image file to imageshack you need to copy the link it provides you and copy it into the Text field below your sentence and that will display it for you.

I am not exactly sure... Are they hard?

Maybe a form of Halimeda?

They might not be bad, I would wait to see if anyone can identify them for you first.

Interesting! Everything about my new reef tank is interesting, even the stuff you might not want to have, it is interesting to learn about, Halimeda, if that is what it is, is beneficial, I am hoping someone knows, and I am hoping it is something good.

It most certainly is interesting, If you have a moment, take some pics and write up a small review of your tank and put it in the member profile section... Lots of knowledgable people here willing to help ya figure stuff out as you go.

Almost look like some kind of polyp coral that is all closed up.  I have some yellows that look like that occasionally.

it looks like what i had growing on a piece of live rock a while back. it's some crazy calcifying macro algae. it's not halimeda though.
mine grew on a few pieces i got from a lfs, that i used to work at, when they were going out of business. it never grew there because it was always in with various herbivores. when i put the rock in my tank it grew 4 or 5 different kinds of weird macros that i've never seen.
if it is what i had and you let it grow it'll end up looking pretty cool for you.

Talked with Kim at Aquatic Specialist, and he said and showed me that it is Neomeris Annulata, here is a link to other marine plants that I found, thanks to everyone!
