Colored LEDs
« on: May 03, 2011, 22:34:25 »
Has anyone built a system using all kind of colors that cree uses? I was thinking about building one with a couple reds, greens, blues, royal, neutral, cool white, neutral and warm to see how well that makes things look. Cutter offers PCB's that you can custom make with different bins on them, i think up to 12 per PCB, but i was thinking of only doing tri's to better blend the light. i'll have to draw a diagram of it to get an idea of what i want to do.

it appears according to this http://disc.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/oceancolor/additional/science-focus/ocean-color/oceanblue.shtml that red penetrates about 1-2 feet down. So that could be beneficial to corals for those with less than 2" depth tanks. Greens look like they would do well also as it shows it fades at 100m??? But thats at the suns intensity, LEDs are weaker... Seems like everything but some really dark reds (>700nm) wouldnt do well at all.
