they are thinking cincy 1-3 with significant icing

between cincy and I-70 6-10 inches with less ice the farther north

north of I-70 5-9 inches

all pending the actual storm track

Latest Storm Watch Report

Winter storm watch remains in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening,
A winter storm watch remains in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening.
Snow sleet and freezing rain will move into central indiana by monday afternoon. The precipitation will be primarily snow along and north of interstate 70, while farther south from sullivan and vincennes to columbus it will be a mixture of freezing rain and sleet, changing to all snow by Tuesday.
Snow amounts well in excess of 6 inches are likely north of interstate 70, while areas farther south will receive less snow but freezing rain will be more of a problem.
A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

warm moists air overruns the cold front.  the moisture from the clouds will be warm enough to fall as rain, when it hits the surface (below freezing) it will freeze creating freezing rain.  thats how all freezing rain works

unlike hail or sleet which falls either rain or ice and is updrafted back up, frozen, falls as bigger pellet, updraft, refreeze, and repeat until the pellet is heavy enough to break the cycle and fall to the earth as ice

its all about the upper atmosphere temp combined with surface temps.  different combos get different outcomes

Schools are allowed 5 calamity days before they have to begin to make them up.

I didn't realize that the temps were actully supposed to get into the upper 20's tomorrow.

5 calamity days is the norm, but also depends on the district calendar.

the state requires a certain number or days in school, with the 5 calamity days built in.  Our district exceeds the basic required days so we actually have a little extra built in here.

Winter storm watch now in effect from Tuesday morning through late Tuesday night,
The winter storm watch is now in effect from Tuesday morning through late Tuesday night.
A low pressure system will move out of the southern plains on monday and into the lower tennessee valley on Tuesday, and then into eastern kentucky by late Tuesday night. Abundant gulf moisture will be pulled north into the ohio valley on Monday night and Tuesday as the low passes to the south of the region late tuesday night. This track will bring primarily snow to the region.
The potential for snow will actually begin on Monday as a cold front drops south across the area. Some light accumulation is possible with this front. Further light accumulation is expected monday night associated with snow spreading out well ahead of the main storm system. Indications continue to show that accumulations on Monday and into Monday night would generally be 1 to 3 inches. However as the low moves through the tennessee valley, heavier snow will spread north, creating the potential for an additional 6 to 9 inches on Tuesday. Accumulating snow is likely to continue into Tuesday night as the storm moves off to the east. In addition, expect some blowing and drifting of snow to develop later Tuesday and Tuesday night as winds increase.
There still is some uncertainty with the track of the storm and thus how much snow will occur. So listen to noaa all hazards weather radio or other media for later updates on this situation.
Remember, a winter storm watch means conditions are favorable for hazardous winter weather in and close to the watch area.

Toledo...

It looks like the worst will be Tuesday - Wednesday

A disturbance will cause an inch or two of snow today, with isolated higher amounts across lower Michigan. This will exit this afternoon and evening, before the next system arrives.

***A WINTER STORM WATCH has been issued for tonight through Wednesday.***

A major winter storm will approach tonight, and cause periods of heavy snow Tuesday into Tuesday night. Light accumulations of a few inches are possible tonight, but snow could accumulate in excess of 6 inches Tuesday. Final storm totals by Wednesday morning appear to be in the 8 to 12 inch range, with some isolated higher amounts.

As with all winter storms, we will monitor and update the forecast as it approaches. For the most accurate forecasts, stay tuned to News 11 and wtol.com.

They are saying the snow will start around midnight with 2-4" tonight and the rest tomorrow during the day.

We are under a heavy snow warning from 1AM tonight until 7AM wednesday morning.

I'm off work tonight and was really hoping I'd miss out on the "fun" but it doesn't appear that way now. I'll probably get called in early tomorrow night.

I'm guessing that there probably won't be enough snow by morning to warrant a closing, HOWEVER it's supposed to get a lot worse during the day tomorrow. I'm guessing Greenville is avoiding having to send the kids home early.

no snow here yet either.  i guess our guy has faith in the weather man

That's how Houston does it as well.

A few years ago, Houston closed based on the forecast and ended up getting burnt when we didn't get near what they had predicted.

Snow SUCKS!!! I used to love snow until I had to go out in it and rescue all the dumbasses that can't keep their butts at home when the weather gets bad!! More often than not it is people in their 4x4s that think they can go anywhere they want.

Well, I'll do my part and stay in my house, or at least my yard.  I have to get out and build that snow man sometime!  ;)

Yay!!!   Tipp is out Wednesday!!!

My kids were jumping up and down when they found out.

Just snow with some sleet in the Tipp area.

How are the roads down around the Dayton Mall area?  I heard up to 1/2" of ice in some locals.  Trying to determine if I can make it to work tomorrow.

Depends on who you listen to.  NWS says 1-3 more with 35 mph winds overnight.

We ended up with about 16" up here!! I don't think it got quite as windy as they were thinking it was going to. I think the little bit of ice on top of the snow probably kept the drifting down as well.

We are on a 2hr delay. I suspect it's probably due more to the temps than the snow.
