New Build under way
« on: February 03, 2021, 13:31:55 »
Just wanted to start progress of new build while awaiting new WaterBox Frag 105.4.

Waterbox will be replacing this 125 gallon tanks location. Breaking this one down to sell at the moment. Also Keeping LR alive.

sweet!! Is this your Basement?
what a blank canvas! the end result, what i meant to say is the running result, in reef-keeping there does not seem to be a destination that is static. What you create here will be awesome!

Yes this is located in the basement. Thank you I will keep posting as progress happens. Waterbox is supposed to show up hopefully in next week or two! I ended up getting ich in this tank and fought like heck but couldn't seem to win. Alot of my fish passed and the couple I have are in QT so I am using this as a excuse to start from ground zero. My Rock is going to sit for 88 days so I know ich is 100% dead before transferring into new tank. Also I plan on going bare bottom on new tank. Is that a good idea? I hear alot of different opinions on that topic!

I personally don't like the bare bottom look, but a lot of people do and have great success with it. Personal choice, as are a lot of things in this hobby, every bodies road to success may look a little different. Best wishes on your new build.

I like the look of a sand bottom but at high flow rates I develop sand dunes. This created bare bottom in some areas. I think sand also houses a host of organisms for biological filtration.

OK so I have been keeping my rock alive and transferred over to new tank tonight... (I don't have the quickest RODI system). But next question. When should I start a fuge? Ho long do I need to wait to start establishing that?

i would start the sump/fuge immediately
get it into the flow from the start with live sand/rock/ rock rubble. let the bacteria cycle happen in the sump/fuge at the same time it happens in the DT. the question i would be unsure of is when to introduce macro algae. you want it to start tying up nutrients just before they become an issue. too early and it will waste away. some pods will survive without being able to hide in the macroalgae using rocks and sand

Thank you, So it wouldn't hurt to get some macro algae asap? just want to make sure I keep a proper nutrient level.
