Do you need a new addiction?
« on: October 21, 2010, 18:02:19 »
Try FW or BW puffers.  These guys are just awesome. I have several tanks set up now.  I was just tired of the 'same ole same ole' FW tank, so now I have a brackish 20g with 2 Figure 8s; a 10 with an Irrubesco (Red Tailed, Red Eye puffer); a 20g planted with two Modestus puffers and my 30Xhigh now houses a Congo puffer named Tater.  When I post photos you will see why the name.  The Congo is totally piscivorous so I have to raise ghost shrimp and fish for him to eat.  Weird and comical fish, for sure.

They are way too cool! If I had the time I would have a small tank for them.

Thanks, guys,  it's been fun to do and not *too* expensive.  I really wanted to score a 75g that Justin had a couple months ago and set it up for something like a fakaha or SW FOWLR, but it was not to be and still keep peace in the family - so this is my little passive-aggressive solution, lol.  Lots of small tanks instead of one larger one.   :smiley-happy112:

On the heavily planted 20g tank I have the same lights I used to use on my nano reef:  a small Current USA 10K PC light.
A similar light is on the 30 X-High, but I think I got a 12 or 14K bulb last time I replaced to punch more light to the bottom on that one.  It's an eBay knockoff brand PC light strip called Catfish Lighting and it's been pretty reliable.

On the Brackish tank with Figure 8s is just a new Aqueon hood with standard fluorescent daylight tube.  Bought that entire setup when Jack's did their $1 per gallon tank sale a couple months ago.

And the 10g with the RedTail puffer is, laugh if you will, an old perfecto hood with two 25w incandescents because heck, buying hoods for all these small tanks was adding up, and I had it on a shelf in the basement for the past 10 years, no joke!  Pack-Rattery rewarded  :-ThumbUpsm
