Help identify please...
« on: April 07, 2009, 01:03:33 »
so I found this thing in my rock earlier today and took a few pictures but they aren't very good. what do you think it is? it has little bulbs at the end of it's tips and it looks really clear to a very light pink color. any help is appreciated! thanks!

I think I'm blind too

just from the description though, it sounds like it may be aiptasia. you should be able to google it to see if what you have looks similar to the pictures of aiptasia. just my 2 cents without actually seeing it  :D

Try looking up a corynactus anemone and see if that matches.

The circle is very light around the little thing. I checked out that anemone and it could look like that but those were too pink or too much color for what I have. but they are very close because the little bulbs at the end match like that. do they get color later if that's what it is?

Ive got about ten of those throughout my tank, mine will retract back in if you hit them with a flash lite, dont know what you call them but i have had several people look at them and they said nothing to worry about, that they just usually come with the live rock, if you find out let me know too. Thanks

mine seems to just stay out even when I hit it with a flashlight and my clown won't stay away from it. it's definitely extended today and it has a mouth on it. so I do believe it's that corynactus anemone.

mine is clear as well, that's why I was asking if they'll color up as time goes on? or do they stay the same color. but I guess another article I was reading says they can come in different colors from white to blue. and if they reproduce (asexually) the clones will be the same color as the mother. do you have a picture of yours?

If it is a ball anemone, it can be a variety of colors.  I have several that have popped up as my tank's aged of colors from light grey to bright red. They're all in a shaded corner of the tank and the only thing they could "bother" is a sponge.

I'd just let them be.  I'm sure they snag things we can't see and probably the odd pod or two that wanders by.
