RTN Help
« on: March 08, 2010, 19:57:53 »
Okay, my tank was going down hill, I hadn't done a water change in a while and just generally been lax in my upkeep. So I decide to my the tank into another room. I move all my fish rock and coral to a temporary tank until I get the stand and sump setup in the other room. I come home today to find my pocillopora with about %25 tissue loss. This happened between last night and tonight. Is my best bet to frag all that I can and hope for the best?

With RTN, yes, your best option is likely to frag.

Can you go through your tank-move procedure?  Hopefully we can diagnose where the problem is in the meantime so you won't have any more loss.

Fortuantlly, this is the only real SPS in this tank. the rest are doing okay in the (also temporary) frag tank.

Mixed up new water a few days before the move, got it up to temp, ph, salinity and alk. Began taking the rock out, scrubbing it in a bucket of salted water then right into the new tank, Did rock first, then coral then fish. Everything else seems to be doing okay. It hadn't had and polyp extenstion for 2-3 days before the move, I assume it was the switch that did it in. Luckly a few people have frags of it and I made up a frag a month before I moved it that is doing very well. Also, while I was at the ranch this weekend, Rich showed me the huge colony that it came from, so there is more. It always sucks to lose a coral tho.

You used 100% new water? Where did you move the tank to?
75G Mixed Reef w/ 30G sump/refuge

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

yes, from one side of my office to the floor on the other side. Rock was out of the water for all of 2 minutes. Everything else looks fine. This just may have been the straw that broke the camels back. Good news is some of the frags already have their polyps out, but only time will tell.

Quick update:

Nearly all of the frags are still alive. Some flesh loss on some, but it hasn't advanced in over a week.
