Title: Sump busted
Post by: jfishwild on August 14, 2017, 19:04:12
So today was just like every other Monday sucks. I got a call from my wife telling me that there is water everywhere in my basement and in my dinning room. So I rush home from work and sure enough water was everywhere so I thought the worst and the tank had a leak. Thankfully the tank was not leaking but the sump was. So now I need to build a new stand to transfer the tank to it so I can get it all dried up underneath the stand. I will also be running the sump to my basement so this dose not happen again.

That STINKS!

Having a sump in the basement changes everything about the way you maintain your tank.

I am running an Iwaki pump that I purchased on Ebay and have been very satisfied.

A word of caution on that design. You've got a lot of vertical timber, which is great, but it looks like you have your top and base frame sitting around them.  This is going to create major pressure points on the bottom of your tank as well as restrict all your vertical support to the sheer strength of whatever screws or fasteners you use.  I'd recommend keeping your 4x4 corner posts as is, but shorten your 2x4 all the way around to sit between the top and bottom frames. This will transfer the strength from your screws to the compression strength of the 2x4s where you want it.
