Phoenix Tank
« on: August 15, 2019, 21:51:10 »
So as most of you know I had a house fire on July 3rd. If not you do now. Needless to say my 180g wasn't what started the fire but it was still a total loss. Except the fish were saved and no coral was harmed in the destruction of the system. So from the ashes a new tank rises I have named it Phoenix. So here is what the new system is going to entail.

210g tank
new stand and canopy
Apex system
Apex Wav
Apex DOS
Iwaki MD55RLT return pump
Vertex Alpha 250
Tideline 72" Sump
Apex ATK
2 Reef Brite LED
ATI sun power 8x80

As it gets built I will be uploading pictures current fish awaiting the tank are as follows

2 Lamark angels
2 Clarkii
1 Blue Throat Trigger
1 Achilles Tang
1 Yellow Tang
1 Purple Tang
1 Melanurus Wrasse
1 Banggai Cardinal
2 Yellow Tail Damsels
1 Orange Tube Anemone

I also have which I am selling if they don't sell they will also be going in to the system though
2 Dej Sailfin Tangs
1 Rabbit Fish

sorry to hear about they fire.  Looks like the tank rebuild is going to be a nice setup.  Glad the fish were all ok, funny how you can become attached to a fish.

So fish are now in the tank. I know I know it isn't cycled but I really needed to get them out of the 93 they were in. I have added some bottle bacteria by Dr tims and adding some turbo start on Friday. All the fish seem to be much happier in the 210 couple scrapes and torn fins from moving but no one worst for wear. Everyone is eating even my tube nem is happy. Tank is a bit cloudy from the Dr tims but that will clear up this evening

What does the third water container hold? I figure RO, Salt, then maybe waste from auto water change?

Gotcha,  I tended to just use just 2 containers to do that.  Is this going to be a mixed reef?

UPDATE: Nitrates are at about 5ppm. Salinity is a bit off still at 27.4 working on bringing it up to 35. Refractometer calibration was off so ya know crap happens. All fish and tube nem are very happy. Got my trident up and running thanks Jennifer (Aquarium Artisans). Also got the bugs worked out on Apex so things are going great.

So against my better judgement I ordered two more tube nems. I just didn't want to risk someone else buying them I have had my eye on them the last few days on live aquaria. Also thinking my apex salinity probe is needing calibrated again. But with my refactormeter I almost have it to where I want it.

Don’t count to much on the apex salinity probe. They are not very accurate or consistent

Neptune says that keeping the salinity probe and cord away from everything else can help. Apparently it is susceptible to interference

If I remember right the biggest issues with that probe is trapped air in the tip of it.

Nice meeting you today. As we discussed, the Apex forums are full of the same question about the probes and calibration. Since it’s new, give it 2 or 3 weeks in the water and then re-calibrate it. I gave up on the calibration fluid and used a refractometer to get my tank exactly 026 and the I calibrated the probe with my tank water. I’ve had it going this way for a year and it’s only about .5 off. But I know it so I just keep my water at 35.5 now. Lol

The dreaded ugly stage has begun so 10 days in starting to see diatoms so 10 days in started a little bit early but plow thru and see how things shake out.

:nervous: well the tank ended up with ich. Might have gotten it when they were in friends tank while we waited for the house. Achilles was first to get it so now I have pulled out the rock caught all the fish and have them in copper treatment. Going to be fallow which sucks but it's for the best. Don't quite like the rock work I think that the right stack is too tall and too steep. But it works for now

So update on the tank. I have been trying to solve a low oh issue. Think it is from too much C02 in the house. So today I drilled a hole thru my wall and plumbed a fresh airline for my skimmer. Needless to say it's seems to be working but I now can't get the skimmer dialed back in since I had to remove the silencers. Going to have to modify them so I can run a hose to em. Will post pics of the project when done

So solved the pH issue with the outside air. But noticed coral starting to pale out did some testing 0 phosphate and less than 5 nitrate so started dosing them today

So tanks been running a while can't seem to keep any sps/Monti. Sent off a triton test and these are my results. What do you think https://www.triton-lab.de/showroom/icp-oes/114525

Looks like your phosphates are crazy high per Triton. I don’t personally keep them super low in my own tank, but always try and stay below 0.2 mg/l (equal to ppm). Iodine is high too but I’m not sure if that is an issue, someone else might chime in about that.

From a lot of research I’ve done in the past, anything over .1 starts impeding calcification in stony corals. Obviously the higher you go over .1 the worse it is and I’m sure there’s also a ceiling where coral death is the outcome. I’d get that under control as quickly as you can. But not so fast that it kills your coral.
