Yep those are pineapple sponge. Good indicator of a maturing tank.

They're actually tunicates (aka, sea squirts) I believe, but very similar to a sponge.

I was thinking Ascidiacea, but you're probably right.

The fact that they usually show up in overflow boxes and sumps is the main clue- high flow areas.
