Near Death
« on: May 14, 2011, 15:22:10 »
Large Yellow Tang dying, first fish ive ever lost in all the years of being in this hobby, other than the jumpers, or the one i ground up in a pump, oops, No sign of anykind of sickness at all fins are all out and she looks great apperance wise. All water paremitors are great, all other fish are well, Im thinkin its probly just old age, ive had her a couple years now, and i think she had some age on her then but not for sure of age.:(

Yellow tangs can live 20-30 years and up to 40 however most sites will say 5-7. Like humans they can have disease that is not related to it's environment or care such as vascular problem. Hope it rebounds.

Average Lifespan of  fish (tank kept), I would be surprised if it was greater than 1 year. For us members here at Ohio Reef I am sure it is much much greater. We are more in tune with their needs and ability to provide appropriate care.

From what I've read I agree.. 5-7 years are POSSIBLE in captivity. (except in my tanks LOL ... I now have a tang for more than 2 months :) . I never had any luck 15 years ago when I had FO tanks. Just a lack of experience )

20-30 years in the wild ... Its hard to compete with mother nature :)
