Title: unknown crab
Post by: bbtm64 on July 08, 2013, 19:08:02
I found this in my tank when I came home from vacation. It doesn't seem to bothering any fish or corals.
Anyone have any idea as to the species? Its approximately 1¼" across.

Not sure what genus this is. Not liking the looks of the claws on this one. I would banish it to a sump and keep an eye on it. Most crabs are omnivores and when they get bigger they sometimes aquire a taste for corals and fish.

Agreed- those are steak knives, not salad tongs.

I have emerald crabs and according to LA they can reach 2½" across. I think I'll take it to Jack's and trade it in unless someone here would like to trade him for something.

Yeah, the big claw to hold the prey and the smaller sharper one to rip the prey apart.
