Title: Mystic sunset
Post by: JSellars on October 26, 2019, 19:02:41
I picked up this mystic sunset from lazys a couple weeks ago, looked great in his tank, but where I had it in mine it started looking white, I thought maybe my torch was stinging it, so I moved it, it colored back up, but now it seems to be turning white again. Any ideas?

Most montis are lower light corals.  Put it in the sand asap and see how it does.

Just keeps getting worse, will this hurt my tank any since it’s dying? Would dipping it help any? Never had an issue with my tank before, I’m kinda freaking out.

Leave it be and watch it. Mine did the same thing and after a fair amount of time it rebounded and now covers a large rock. It’s a tough coral.
You might post your water parameters for folk to see too. What lights you running?

it won’t hurt your tank, even if you completely lose it. Not enough skin there to cause any issue. Probably as much waste as a days feeding if that.

First off....this happens to everyone.   It likely just didn't survive the acclimation stress.

Acclimating corals is far from an exact science, but you can almost guarantee that the tank parameters that it came from is different than yours. Alk,ph and temp are probably the biggest thing to be mindful of when acclimating a coral.   But even with the most care, this is stressful to the coral, and sometimes even when you do it right, it doesn't live.

But I would leave it be, montiporas can recover from the smallest spec of living tissue.

I will second the fact of them coming back from nothing. I have tried to kill them before by scraping all the flesh off the rock and they always seem to come back.

I might be speaking too soon, but I swear it’s starting to get a little bit of color back to it already.

Definitely coloring up. I need to move it away from this little torch still though.

Well, it’s been a couple months and i can’t believe how well this thing is doing! It’s a dark red color with blue dots all over it. It has a little new growth on the back side of it.
