125g pump and skimmer requirements?
« on: January 13, 2009, 21:19:14 »
Ok, so I guess I'm hooked because my 65g is now going to be growing into a 125g.  I would love to put a sump in the basement to keep noise down and make water changes easier.  Now my question is what pump (how big how many watts?)  and skimmer (I'm thinking a big AquaC)

Open to any ideas.

Thanks

Lonnie

the ev-180 from aquac would probably do the trick

I have an HD pump. Here is the link to my RC thread.  This is from the day I set my 125 up.  My sump room is in the basement I think like you are talking about.

Thanks Lonnie, I appreciate you taking the time to read it and your prayers!

Things are OK for the time being.  Russell is doing pretty well, although in December, the Dr. confirmed any kind of work for him is out of the question.  we're just thankful he is doing as well as he is!  :)  My Mom goes back to Cleveland Clinic in 2 weeks.  She will probably have to have the ablation surgery redone again there.  My step father's father is in the end stage of pancreatic cancer, so things have been a tough for my Dad and Mom with all of that, especially Dad.

Were you able to find the pump information on the thread?  I know it's an HD but I forget which one.

I think so, I found a 150 6 hours closer and by the time I figure gas into the cost it works out to be the same.  I really need to stop looking for deals or I'm going to end up with a 220  ;D

As for a pump you might want to check out the Reeflo Wahoo. Smokin deal on new ones direct from Reeflo.

Ok, heres a question.  My Mag 7 uses 60 watts or so.  How much is my electric bill gonna go up by using one of these big external pumps?  Not that it matters a whole lot, gonna need it if I do a basement sump, just trying to decide if a basement sump is worth the offset of a higher electric bill.

Assuming about 12' of head pressure with the plumbing and getting it up from the basement and you are looking at about 260 watts x 24 hours a day x 30 days a month = 187,200 watts or 187kw *0.12/kw = $22.44 per month vs about $5 per month for the mag7.

Thats not all that bad I guess.  I'm sure I could drink a little less Cabo Wabo to offset the cost. ;D

Never went and picked it up.  For those intrested there is a Brand New duel overflow 125, stand and capony along with some other items in Terre Haute In.  for 700.00  Found it on Craigslist.

I will be selling my 65g, stand, canopy and sump as soon as this tank is up and running.
