Show it off!
« on: January 19, 2014, 01:15:06 »
I am super close to pulling the trigger on a new apex. But am not having any ideas on how to mount everything. If you would like to post a picture of your controller and modules, it would help my out. Help get my creative juices flowing. Thanks all.

Base Apex unit with standard temp, and ph probes.

Probes in a nice little probe holder I picked up.

I don't have a pic of the rest....its mounted in the floor joists above each of the tanks.   The controls are not water safe, so be sure to keep drip loops in cords and keep water and salt creep away from it.

While they are using USB cables, the Aquabus Power is 12V (USB is 5V) so do not plug a USB device into the Apex.

The EnergyBar (powerstrip) also provides the 12v power on the Aquabus.   Which powers all of the modules.   The Apex base unit does have a 12v auxiliary power connection (I have that hooked to a battery backup) to be able to get alarms if you loose power, or a cable gets unplugged.

These are USB-A Male, Male cables.   The apex comes with 3 foot versions.  You can use USB extension cables, or just order longer cables from electronic supply or cable stores.

Thanks for the info. Once I figure out where everything is going to go, I will just make my own cables to cut down on excess cable.

These are also communications cables,  if you do make your own cables, be sure to watch for communications errors.

I've been debating on the Salinty probe module, and probe as well. Can't decide if it's really worth the money to monitor salinity?

Too bad we can't get a group buy going with neptune.

Are errors common, and are the errors obvious?

That would be awesome.

They can be if you have a bad cable.   There is a diagnostics page.

Doubt we would have enough interest in hardware for them to bat and eye.  Never heard of anyone offering any sort of group buy.

A salinity probe would be useful if you have an unreliable top off.....otherwise, other than making a pretty graph, I cannot see much use.

I do use the salinity probe since I run a automatic water change system as a way to monitor that. I still check the salinity with a refractometer though to be safe but not daily.

As a example the apex unit they sell for $550 ish.... Wholesale is $468

Only 10-15% off plus shipping

Jesse, where did you get your probe holder? Does anyone else use a probe holder. If so did you purchase or make it?

I'm pretty sure this is the one I got. I did have to open it up for the Apex probes to fit.

I made some in the past, but now I just hang them on the edge if the sump or tie wrap the wires to the plumbing.

Do you have to use the display? Just doing some planning and thinking if I could see everything I want with my phone and or tablet, why waste space with the display?

I would keep one around incase you have a problem that you cannot seem to workout remotely.  But no, it does not need a display plugged in to work.

I'll keep it. Just wont use it unless I have to.

What about probe holders? How many probes are you using? Also airline holder for your dosing? I have what I think I want in mind. It may need t be custom made though. I would like to see one holder do it all.
