Shockbuster wall mount GFCI
« on: June 15, 2010, 20:24:07 »
 :flame

My tank kept shutting down.  I thought at first it was due to small splashes from the return or possibly the big Koralia 4.  I adjusted things so that wouldn't be a possibility, but still the GFCI was shutting my entire tank down every day or two.  Fortunately I don't get out much and caught it within an hour or so each time, but...  :(

So I pulled it.  Now I'm running without one, and may talk hubby into installing one downstairs on the circuit like Joel told me about in another thread.

What's scary is the way the tank's situated, the wall outlet is directly below the return hose from the sump.  Talk about tempting fate.  I hope that sucker never develops a leak.

Steph, I just started having the same problem last night with my 29g.  In the past 24 hours, it tripped 4 times.  Once while we were sleeping, and once today while I was at work.  After mowing the grass, I yanked mine as well...  I may go and get a GFCI breaker for my box, as well.  This is a dedicated circuit, and nothing has changed in the past week or so, so I don't know what the dealio is...  of course, I could have a bad electrical component and just doomed my house to burn down :/

Yeah, I hear ya.  After starting a fire at our last house with my stupidity, I'm not sleeping well.

Did I ever post photos of that mess?  Lord it was scary.

I started a fire once when my overflow didn't start and my GFCI didn't trip. Gotta be a way to test these things. If I wasn't home it would have been terrible. Or worse yet, if I was asleep up stairs...

I didn't know such a gadget existed.   I'll ask Tom if he has one.  With all his home repair stuff I bet he does.  It always amazes me what he pulls out of a box in the basement or his van.
