Drilling Acrylic
« on: August 09, 2020, 15:30:56 »
Hi everyone,

I need to drill my acrylic aquarium. What kind of bit should I use? It looks like many of the people on youtube are just using standard wood drill bits? The hole needs to be big enough for a 1" bulkhead.

Thanks in advance
Cole

(I am not a pro at all, so take my advice for what it’s worth)

I used a brand new wood hole saw and drilled into a 1/4” thick tank with no issues. My only advice is that if you can, use a piece of wood on the back side of the hole and to keep the acrylic from breaking out as the hole saw exits. I drilled the bottom of the tank while sitting on a piece of plywood, then to drill the hole on the back side I laid the tank on its back on the plywood and drilled it.

Thanks for the advice, I am also drilling 1/4" acrylic so hopefully everything will go well if I follow your advice.
