Steve's Triton test results
« on: January 07, 2016, 19:37:46 »
Here are my Triton results. Answers some questions, raises some more.

Water source - Middletown Municipal
Filtration - Kent Maxima 4 stage RO/DI
Salt - Reef Crystals
Water Change frequency - 60 gals on 210 TWV, about every 4-6 weeks
Additives - half doses and not regular of Kent essentials and Kent Iodide

If my mag is really as high as it says on Triton results I have some issues. Tested with a Salifert test kit the day I mailed out samples and it said my mag was 1200 ppm.

I've seen that before from salifert  mag test kits,  I don't use salient for mag anymore.   I'm not sure 1500 is harmful, as long as it does change very fast.

Where is the Bromide coming from...... It's normally low from reef crystals

Yeah but when I tested at 1200 I raised it to 1320 which would be 1630 on Triton, after that I lost several corals. Not sure about Bromide. Maybe something I am supplementing, maybe the calcium. But is it a bad thing. Would imagine it would go down with a good water change. Trying to find some info on internet.

For most Br is low.  The guys at ReefGrow sell it as an additive, as most salt mixes are deficient in Br.    It is an expensive additive for the salt makers.   I wonder if there is some contamination in your Ca mix doing that.   I'm not sure what is harmful.

How many days did you raise the Mag.   If you did it all at once, that is bad.

Didn't do the increase all at once, broke it down over several days.

I would gladly sell them some of mine. I am doing some research, guessing since I use Dow Mag and Ca it could be in there. Read several articles and nobody seems to really know what impact it has on corals, if any?
