Glad to meet you
« on: August 05, 2009, 21:59:45 »
I'm amazed that there is a local reef club right here and I didn't know about it!  I just found out about you all at Reef Central and see I just missed a frag swap last weekend.  Timing as they say....

Anyway, it's good to find a local group of like-minded reef nuts.   ;D

I've been browsing around the forums and see at least one person I know (Rob).  I used to work at Superpetz in Miamisburg (1998-99 ish?) as livestock mgr, then I worked for Dr. Beall in Springboro for a few years, and Marine Solutions in the evenings when they were still in Centerville.

I've been out of the hobby for the most part since 2003, but have kept one 20 gal nano reef since we moved to M'burg in '05.  Last month we got our neighbor's 90 gallon tank that he just didn't want anymore (free).  Biggest tank I've ever had, and wish I had a sump.

I'm in a quandary about skimmers at the moment.  I've had a CPR BakPak on the small tank, but I know I need a new one for this tank.  The HOB models I'm seeing on the net worry me as I have 3.5 inches clearance between the back of the tank and the wall it's on.

Anyway that's my mission this week....get a skimmer!  And maybe convince DH that we need a sump instead of the Fluval 405 that came with the tank.

What kind of lights you have on your tank?
And how does that fluval work for you?

I think I have this:

http://www.aquariumsupplystore.com/Productspages/jbj_lighting_fixtures.htm

JBJ Aqua Lighting with 10,000K daylight PCs and 7100K actinics.  260 watts.  It doesn't actually say Formosa anywhere that I've seen yet, but that photo looks identical to what I have.

The Fluval does a heck of a job, I must say.  Good thing, too because the sump's not running yet.  I still don't have my Eshopps overflow  :'(    I called today to see if it had come in, and was told that the supplier was out of stock on it.  A phone call would have been very nice, instead of making me wait all week.  Not happy about that, I must say.

Anyway, I ordered one from Drs Foster and Smith and paying extra for 1 day shipping so it should be here Tuesday.

<< Yuck, guess it's time to clean salt off again

and just so Justin can see I'm taking care of my new lobo  ;D :

I fed it for the first time last night, since my fish don't allow anything to hit the bottom of the tank.  I think it looks happy.  The pocilloporas are doing well so far too.   (they are pocillopora I think--geez--a mind is a terrible thing to waste)

I have some legs coming mail order.  Yeah, the blocks of wood are kind of cute and rustic and all...but oh well.

Justin, I'll get photos of the pocilloporas later on and post them.  Everybody is happy so far.  I need to get rid of some kenya tree though.
