I'd like to host sometime in the June-August range. Both of my tanks should be decently grown by then, and it'll be before I transfer up to MSU (and burden my parents with the tanks). I just don't know if I'll be going up for a summer session or waiting for fall, yet. Downside is that I'm in Bellbrook, so it's a bit of a stretch for quite a few, I think.
-
Put me down for July and we can do a barbecue. Significant others and kids welcome.
-
BBQ sounds nice!! Keep the volunteering coming! (Rev131 - just let us know a month whenever you know!)
-
Bump...we need someone ASAP for February! Keep in mind, you can just volunteer to make a reservation at a restaurant, park, or whatever is free instead of hosting in your home!
-
I will volunteer for Feb meeting. I have never been to a meeting or hosted. My tank is in the works for getting rid of hair algea so hopefully it will look decent when we have the meeting. I was thinking about Feb 21st or 28th which are both saturdays. Either one works for me. I live in Huber Heights.
-
hey maybe we could have a meeting at the Newport Aquarium. They offer a behind the scenes tour. It cost an extra $15 per person. Just an idea.

I would be interested in a behind the scenes meeting/tour at the Newport Aquarium as well.
-
I would also like a behind the scenes tour. That sounds like alot of fun.
-
OK i would like to rally a meeting in march at the newport aquarium. We need a group of 10 or more to call in advance to book a tour. Now Its $20 to get into the door per person and another $15 for the behind the scenes. I just wanted everyone to know that up front. Let me know if you want to go and ill start making phone calls and get a date set.If this is ok with everyone. Also groups of ten or more get special rates when we call ahead.I wont know what these rates will be untill i call them.
-
Count me in +1.
-
i am in for 2ppl
-
That sounds really neat. I am in for 2ppl as well.
-
I will try to call tomorrow and get some more info on this.

Thanks for volunteering. After the January meeting, we will set a date.

Mike,
You might want to talk to baggerhog about this. He has a way with these kinds of things in the Cincy area. Not saying he could definitely do anything but when he walks into anywhere in the greater cincy area people know...
I'm in for the tour.
Scott,
Andy and I would like to host at some point but if we are thinking Newport in March maybe we should push to the summer so ya'll yankees don't have to drive down 75 two months in a row.

If we do decide to do the Newport Aquarium meeting, I can get discounted tickets from where I work (atleast I could last year and I'm pretty sure we continued the partnership this year). I think they are $16.95 adults/$9.95 kids but I would have to double check. I don't know if thats the standard group rate or not, but it's an option to save $3/ticket if we don't hit the "official" group rates. These are the normal tickets to get into the aquarium...not the "behind the scenes" option.
-
Change me from 2 to 4 PPL for Newport
-
well its $20 to get in the aquarium and another $20 to get into the behind the scenes( they are upping the price on the bts, there site says 15 but its really $20. ) . Now if we get a group of 15 people it would be $32 for both bts and entrance to the aquarium. I will have more info at the meeting tomorrow.
-
Bump for some more members offering to host meetings.
-
I am in for Newport def! I also want to host a meeting a bit closer to summer. I am in the middle of a remodel at the house and it is gonna take some time, and the economy, before I can get it buttoned up enough.
When are you having a meeting Lazy?! You are gonna have a sweet light mover and all those corals to show off! That and I might not get asked why I am still sittin on your couch for over an hour talking about tanks! haha ;D
-
if we are still doing the newport thing joelbegt and i are in

I believe that Joel is hosting the March meeting this coming weekend. Just a side note but the family and I went to Newport a few months ago and I must say that I was very disappointed by a good part of it. The frog-bog was kinda cool and the shark area had some nice fish in it and a champ of a moray but the reef was just terrible looking, I am pretty sure that my bland, bare, empty and less than a year old tank looks better. Just my thought before people decided to spend a good amount of money.
-
I'll second the blah-looking reef tank at Newport. I tried to volunteer there to help with it...but apparently they don't just take anyone (need diving certifications...and they prefer someone with a biology degree.)

I believe the meeting is Saturday March 28th.

i have been told by several people thats its not the best looking anymore. thats why i havent really pushed the issue all that much.
-
I have heard that as well

I felt the same way about Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, TN. After getting into this hobby I was so excited to go and see what they might have on display. I was terribly disappointed.

Really?! I went to Ripley's in Gatlinburg about a year or so ago...I was shocked at their reef tank. I'll have to post some pictures. I think that's the best reef tank I've ever seen in person.

Alright, I'd like to host the August meeting. It'll be at our house (unless we manage to sell it before then) and I'll post once we have a good date figured out in a month or two.
-
Ill put you down on the schedule Lisa. Thanks!
-
I am hosting the July meeting. With July 4th being out due to Holiday, July 18th my Vacation and July 25th being out due to frag swap what date do you all prefer. I was thinking July 11th. Will that be to close to the swap?
-
Put me down for hosting June since the swap is July.
Thanks
-
Got it!
-
Bump...only two months left available to host this year! Thank you to everyone that has volunteered! I'm really happy we have events planned so far out in advance.
Lazy - if you can still host June, please think of a date.
Everyone else - If you would like some sort of demonstration at your hosted meeting, please contact me. We have several members with talents they'd like to demonstrate. Also, I have several powerpoint shows on different topics such as coral structure, pests, and trace elements (but I would need a computer to show it on.)
-
Put me down for November. Going to do some Acrylic demo's.
-
Sweet!
-
If we are going to have a July meeting I could probly host the weekend before the swap it would be a good time to get everyone together and discus everything.
-
I was just wondering if we were still looking at some kind of bbq around the Fourth or if we were just going to go with the swap as being the main meeting.
-
It's up to whomever would like to host. If someone wants to host a July meeting...by all means, post a date/time/location/what we need to bring. I'd advise against a date near a holiday as many people travel then or have family/friends in town.
-
Ok put me down for july 18th
-
For the August meeting, I would like to do Sunday the 16th, at my house. If too many people can't make it, we can change the date. But, it's more than a month away, so no worries about it right now.
-
woot a meeting on a sunday!!! i will be able to go to my second meeting lol
