Calcium level
« on: June 03, 2009, 21:08:28 »
I just tested my water and my Calcium is a little high.  It is at 480.  Most of what I seen they have the norm as 380-450.  Any harm in this? I did do a 15% water change last night.  When I tested the water on 5-23-09, Calcium was at 440.  I am using RSCP and have mostly softies but I do have some small frags of SPS and 2 LPS.

480 is fine.  Up to 500 is alright as long as your alk is on the high side also.

It may cause more buildup on your pumps/heaters.   But no harm at that level.   Just let it naturally come back in balance with your alk.   If you doing a large water changes, the RSCP, probably mixed up at about 480-500 at 1.025 salinity.

Alk went from 12 on 5-23-09 to 8 tonight.  Ph is at 8 tonight.  Salinity is at 1.025

Mine stays at 480, Alk 8-10, PH is a steady 8.4, never changes. I dose 1.5Ml of Purple up at 8am, and 8pm.

PM me that address man. I just checked out my floors, all is well. Looking good.

The danger is if  Alk drops any lower. Get some PH buffer in there and should be okay. Since you don't have anything depleting the Calcium, consider using a mixture of Instant Ocean and your reef salt on next water change. IO is higher in Alk and lower in Calcium and it may help things balance out a bit better.
Also consider testing Alk daily to determine what the use is and adjust daily dosing levels accordingly.
