Title: New To salt

 Just missed the meeting. I am looking to start a salt tank I have alot of fresh water tanks from 20 gal to 100 gal bought a 12 gal nano cube for 100.00 bucks tank rock fish and all but its too small and from what im hearing not great. been shoping around for bigger tanks any one got any Ideas?

My .02...

Go with as large of a tank as you have room for.  Despite what you might think, it's easier to be successful with a large system than to try and balance a small one.  I, of course, did it the other way, and went from 5, to 10, to 29, to 75. 

If at all possible, plan for a sump fuge.  There are many advantages, but the most important for me, was the added water capacity / stability. 

I'm sure other's will chime in here with lots of great info.  Welcome to salt, and welcome to the board!

Thanks for the heads up I can see I need two large tanks one for a reef and one just for fish. Im going to use the sump as it looks the best way to go and I have a semi finnished basement with plenty of room.

I agree with everything rmstevensiii said!  I went from a 20 to 55 to 125 and recently added a 150 Fish Only.  I love my reef tank, but also wanted some fish that weren't reef safe.  I have a sump and fuge and couldn't be happier with my set up.

decide if you want fish or coral.  if you want to go the coral route, dont skimp on things like lights, skimmers, water movers etc.  if you start with the proper (generally more expensive) equipment, you wont have to play the upgrade game later on.

Welcome to Ohio Reef.

Although I agree that bigger would be better, you can still have a neat aquarium with your 12 gallon. Just take it slow and be realistic about what you put in it. There are several smaller fish that should do well for you and if the lighting system is good, even some corals can do well.

There are lots of knowledgeable people here at Ohio Reef to offer their help too so ask away and enjoy.
