If you are on city water, I'd match a 1 micron sediment filter with a 0.5 micron carbon.

If you are on well water or otherwise have a lot of sediment, you might want to go with the same as above but preceed it with a 5 mic sediment, OR go with a 5 mic sediment followed by a 5 mic carbon.
